Entertaiment is a multifaceted activity that may take many forms, from individual choice of leisure activities from an ever-growing library of pre-recorded products; to the banquet adapted for two; to a performance intended for thousands, with music and dance; to a form of ceremony, celebration, or religious festival. The word derives from the Latin inter tenere (between holding) and probably has its root in the Indo-European ten, meaning “stretch.” As entertainment evolves, it can have serious and moral purposes as well as amusement, although the experience of entertainment has become strongly associated with pleasure.
