Automobiles and Motorcycles in the Twenty-First Century
Throughout the twentieth century, the automobile was a popular method of transportation. It allowed people to drive around without the need to use animal-drawn carriages. After World War II, the automotive industry in Europe and the United States began to increase in size. In Japan, the automotive industry was limited until the 1950s. Mazda, Honda, and Mitsubishi began to produce cars in the 1950s and 1960s. In China, the automotive industry is the largest in the world. By 2020, it will have produced 20 million vehicles. It is followed by India and South Korea.
The United States was one of the first countries to develop an automobile assembly line. Henry Ford recognized that the process would reduce the costs of his automobiles, and the price of the Model T went down. In 1901, Ransom Olds began to build affordable cars. The Ransom Olds factory was in Lansing, Michigan.
The automobile became the most important form of transport in modern society. It allows us to carry goods, travel at a higher speed, and look cool in front of our friends. It has also caused harmful effects on humans and the environment. Some cars have toxic lead battery acids.
